French Beach Karachi Biography

Source (google.com.pk )
French Beach of Karachi is located half way between Hawkes Bay and Paradise Point, is a small fishing village known to the locals as Haji Abdullah Goth. Surrounded by a boundary wall, it offers 20 huts, constructed by the villagers, for rent. The village has neither running water nor electric power. Its rocky beach and clear waters are ideal for surfing during the monsoon season, snorkeling and scuba diving. Visitors have to bring their own equipment as well as food and drink supplies.
Amongst the hustle and bustle of being a megalopolis, Karachi is also known for the sandy shores that it offers to its residents and visitors. The development of infrastructure along the various beaches of Karachi has made this gift of nature more valuable than ever before. Regardless of whether you’re a seasoned Karachiite or a guest to the city, the diversity of sand, water and even wildlife on the different beaches must not be missed out on.
Here’s a list of the more popular beaches in Karachi and what they have to offer. Wherever you go, make sure you arm yourself with sunscreen, a towel, change of clothes and prepare to get wet!
Clifton Beach
The most accessible beach of Karachi, Clifton Beach was once an oasis of silver sand in a hot and humid city. Even after the oil spill in 2003 the beach remains a hub for those who enjoy the cool water and happening beach life.  A number of restaurants have opened up on the beachfront and to this day it remains a popular destination for the evenings and weekends.
Devils Point
Located to the East of Clifton Beach, Devils Point has now become a popular place for eating out while enjoying the view of the ocean. Its rocky beach has been used by entrepreneurs to open up the ‘Defence Corniche’, which hosts numerous restaurants with an awesome environment. Though not suitable for swimming, this beach is still an ideal place to get away from the city and enjoy nature. If you’re really fortunate, you might just spot a few dolphins or turtles swimming in the area.
Sands Pit
Southwest of Karachi is Sands Pit beach which boasts unique sand and rock formations. The waters are generally calm, except for during monsoon season. The beach is usually full on Sundays and quite busy on weekends. Numerous company and personal huts line the beach, a few which are open for rent on a day to day basis. The shallow water makes it a great place for swimming. You’ll probably see various crabs and fish being sold fresh by the fishermen in the area.
Hawkes Bay
To the west of Sands Pit lies Hawkes Bay. Because it is slightly further away it tends to be less crowded than Sands Pit Beach. Again, this beach usually has shallow, calm water which is great for swimming. During spring time, the water is clearer than Sands Pit and you can sometimes see schools of fish swimming at your feet. Definitely a rare treat but one worth waiting for!
Gadani
Further West of Hub lies Gadani Beach. Not the usual sand and water combination, Gadani is actually the centre of a Shipbreaking industry. The shipbreaking yard of Gadani is one of the largest in the world. Ships are deliberately run aground and completely scrapped in this area.
Cape Mount
Also known as Cape Monze, this beach is located near the Hub River and Gadani Beach. There is a long staircase which is used to access the smooth sandy beach and calm waters. Photos of this beach make it seem like a getaway in another country. It’s definitely worth the effort to go there!
Paradise Point
The focal point of Paradise Point is a naturally carved archway of rock. Over the centuries, the water has pounded the cliff forming an arch which can be approached when the tide is low. The exhilarating experience is topped off with seaside restaurants along with horse and camel rides.
French Beach
Roughly halfway between Hawkes Bay and Paradise Point lies the affluent French Beach. Due to the privacy it offers by its boundary walls and select group of hut owners it’s a popular spot for foreigners and locals alike. It’s a relatively rocky beach with sensational waves to be enjoyed.
Manora Island Beach
Manora Island is connected to the mainland via Sands Pit. It is the home of the tallest lighthouse in Pakistan and is a popular picnic spot for families. With long and sandy beaches, this is a great spot for those looking for a small adventure.

Who is Mr. Neal Prince? Mr. Prince is a trained Architect from Rice University, an Art Historian, Art Collector and a person with a vast passion for Motion Pictures and Theatre History, especially Set Designs. These elements came together to build a foundation to Mr. Prince's skills, which later became recognized as his ability for designing Hotel and Restaurant Interiors. Mr. Prince incorporated his own passions of above, into an International branding philosophy that remains as strong today as it was when he developed his philosophy of Hotel and Restaurant Designs, which is visible today, in Hotels worldwide. But what makes Mr. Prince different? He was a pioneer within this Industry, along with Dale and Pat Keller, of Hong Kong, in designing Hotels in countries that never had an International Hotel presence. Mr. Prince, along with Kenneth Smith (Interior Designer), Charles Alvey (Graphic Designer), Richard Simpson (Graphic Designer), William Embury (Interior Designer), Joe Grusczak (Interior Designer), James Ray Baker (Interior Designer) and Irene D'Alessio (Interior Designer) and many others were the first, to sent the standards for International Hotel Interiors. And what is incredible is that he did not have the grand budgets that most designers have today. Mr. Prince used local talents and products, when available and appropriate, to augment his designs, which, in return, allowed local Artist, Gallery Owners, Merchants and vendors to view Inter-Continental not as an invader, but as a partner in creating new sources of commence within the local economy. What is even more unique in Mr. Prince being different, was that Mr. Prince has always credited his success, not in the terms of "I", but "WE". Mr. Prince, being from Corsicana, Texas, has always remained modest and respectful and always have contributed his success due to the fact that designing hotels is a "TEAM" effort, from his Departmental Staff to his Professional Associate Designers that he had brought on to do a certain project for the vast inventory of Inter-Continental Hotel holdings. This website is to bring together the collections, resources, stories and images documenting a period of time, before computers, mobile phones, fax's or video conferencing. This website is to recapture the time when International Hotel Design Industry remained in its infancy before the growth and development into what we have today as multi billion dollar companies. Each Hotel on this website will encompass how Mr. Prince and his Staff and Professional Associates overcame the troubles of designing Hotels, from a historic point of view, to what was necessary to open the Hotels, maintain the Hotels, and what lessons were learned to be applied for the next project.
Dale Keller is the Pioneer of Hotel Interior Design in Asia, having arrived in Japan in 1953 to attend the Tokyo University Graduate School of Architecture, where he studied the history of Japanese and Chinese Architecture.
In 1955, Dale Keller established his own design firm designing the interiors of factories, offices and clubs.  In 1957 he met his wife-to-be, Patricia, who had stopped in Tokyo on a design study tour of the world.  Patricia and Dale Keller are both graduates of Interior Design from the University of Washington and following her graduation; Patricia worked on the interior design for hotels in the United States of America, British Columbia, Denmark and France.
The first job together for Patricia and Dale Keller was the Marunouchi Hotel - Tokyo, followed soon after by the Okura Hotel and the Tokyo Hilton.  In 1961 they were invited to create the interior design of the Hong Kong Hilton.  This move triggered the start of an odyssey taking them worldwide with offices in Hong Kong, London and New York.
The Keller's' interior design practice soon grew into the largest interior design firm in the world specializing in the hospitality industry, annually being listed as number one in the Interior Design magazine list of "Giants in Hotel Design", with hotel designs underway in Manila, Bangkok, Singapore, Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Colombo, etc. In 1965, they were appointed interior designers for the first luxury resort to be built in Asia - the Bali Hyatt at Sanur Beach, Indonesia.  This became a land mark project involving the Keller's deeply into the arts and crafts of Indonesia, spending much time studying the craft techniques of Bali and Java.  The results were breathtaking and a resort of great charm was created with a strong national identity; a resort that could only have been created in Bali.  The entire interior - every piece of furniture, lamps, cushions - were actually fabricated in sheds on-site as there were no furniture factories as such in those days in Bali.
The Bali Hyatt won many Design Awards and operates as a very successful resort hotel to this day.
India became a cultural bridge for the Keller’s westward odyssey with work in Bombay, New Delhi and Madras.  India’s rich Mogul architectural heritage inspired many of the interiors in these projects.
The Keller's work expanded rapidly taking them into the Middle East, Europe and North America.
The 1970’s Middle East economic boom brought new challenges also new and ancient cultures to be studied and adapted to their work – Greek, Roman and Islamic.
Projects in Greece and Cyprus were inspired by Greco-Roman design elements where as the work in Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Bahrain and Doha was themed on Islamic design motifs.
In 1976 the fully restored and expanded Manila Hotel opened to great response.  This hotel was built in the early years of the 20th Century, survived the Second World War and fell into disrepair.  It was saved from demolition because of its landmark reputation.  The Keller’s gained great satisfaction in restoring this early Twentieth Century landmark which has won many awards worldwide.
The simple and serene Interior Design of the Regent at Hong Kong (now the Inter-Continental Hotel) set a new standard creating the bench mark for all future 5-Star Hotels, the impact of which has continued into the 21st Century.
Dale Keller was responsible for encouraging PATA to establish a Pacific Asia Heritage Society to actively pursue the protection and preservation of Asian landmarks, culture and living national treasures.  This has now become the PATA Foundation which actively sponsors seminars in various Asian countries and gives scholarships to worthy individuals.
The Keller’s were invited by the Sultan of Brunei to design the interior of his new Palace, the "New Istana", and the largest palace in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records.  A "chance of a life time" project.
China has always held a deep fascination for Dale Keller since his days at Tokyo University.  In 1972 the Keller’s were officially invited to China to study Chinese rug production in Beijing and Tianjin.  In 1979 they started working on the first "modern" hotel to be built in China, the Fragrant Hill Hotel, in the foothills outside of Beijing.  They worked for three years with I.M. PEI Architects to create a low rise "Chinese Style" hotel built around the remains of a 200 year-old Garden; a garden built for the Emperor K'ang Shi.  The Keller’s subsequently have created hotel interiors in major cities throughout China.
The Aman and the Four Seasons Resort in Bali are indeed high points of their career.  Here they were able to put to work their long experience in Indonesia and indeed their love for the Balinese culture.  They feel the design teams that created these resorts were ideal - architecture, landscape design, engineering and dedicated workmen.  The results give the Keller’s great satisfaction and they know that in time, thousands of guests will experience the serenity, the solitude and the grace of these unique environments.
Working as design consultants the Keller’s helped create the Prince Maurice resort, Mauritius and the Lemura Resort and Golf Hotel in the Seychelles.
Patricia and Dale Keller won the 1999 Lifetime Achievement Award for their International Careers as Hotel Designers.  The award was presented to them at a Gala dinner at the Dorchester Hotel in London on the 6th December, 1999.
Patricia and Dale Keller continue to offer design consultancy services from their new home/studio in Bellevue, WA, United States.

Biochemistry at University of Karachi started as part of the Department of Chemistry in 1962 under the Chairmanship of Dr. Rafiq Ahmed. Dr. MA Wali, Dr. Zain-ul-Abedin and Dr. Sabir Ali have served as Department Chairs. During the tenure of the first three Chairs research within the Department was closely associated with the interests of the Chairs and was mentor to many scientists as they established their research careers here. Through its history since then the department has flourished under the direction of eleven chairpersons and currently have 27 faculty members and a MPhil/PhD program for which the degrees have been granted in the department since 1975.
Research work at molecular level led to an era of explosive productivity within the department and the training of a whole generation of young scientists, many of whom went on to distinguished careers in Biochemistry. With the creation of an independent department, the faculty expanded slowly to include three professors by 1970; 12 professors by 2007 and now 27 faculty members in 2012. Student enrollment and PhDs awarded also increased as the department expanded with increase in the annual scientific productivity.  In recent years an average doctoral student had just over 3 co-authored papers from dissertation research, and is first author on two papers.
The department sets out to meet a key goal of modern biology – to arrive at a full understanding of the structure and dynamic chemistry of the underlying molecular constituents of cells, the essential feature is that biochemistry uses molecular methods to explain biological processes. The focus of research has shifted towards molecular biochemistry, genomics and proteomics, biotechnology, cellular biophysics and structural biology, clinical biochemistry, biochemical neuropharmacology, bioinformatics, nutritional biochemistry  with several independent groups engaged in studies in molecular structure determination, molecular mechanisms of membrane trafficking, protein folding, and signal transduction.
The Department of Biochemistry now covers such a wide range that it is difficult to draw a demarcation around biochemistry it provides a multidisciplinary and collaborative setting that brings together cell biologists, neurochemists , clinical biochemists, biophysicists,  nutritionists, enzymologist,  geneticists, systems/computational biologists and structural biologists which provides the foundations of pathology, pharmacology, physiology, genetics. The research programs of most of the faculty within the Department revolved around these central themes. Major projects within the Department involved the understanding of the mechanism and regulation of enzymes, clinical chemistry, biotechnology ,behavioral neuropharmacology, protein-protein interactions, characterization of proteins in disease conditions using 2-DE and Mass Spectrometry, western blotting, HPLC and the structure of proteins using biophysical methods such as ultracentrifugation and electron microscopy.
Subsidiary student teaching remains an important role of department faculty. The Biochemistry faculty members are principally involved in the first Basic Science course, Molecules, Genes, and Cells to approximately 1200 students per year. Graduate students are the leaders of tomorrow and play a critical role in keeping the department at the forefront of international research. Many of whom went on to distinguished careers in Biochemistry like faculty at the world renowned Universities like Harvard University and  NIH USA .
Over the years, faculty in the Department of Biochemistry has received considerable recognition, including receipt of major University awards, election to the National Academy of Sciences, International Advisory committee members and International Scientific Society Council members. We are proud of our history and current status, and we strive towards continued excellence in research, training, and service in the field of biochemistry.

A museum in the same vicinity reflects the life of the great leaders Jinnah, Gandhi and the Pakistani Independence Movement from British rule.
What Mohammed Ali Jinnah did for the muslims of India, was save millions from a life of slavery and cruelty in a Majority hindu country, he saved Islam and ensured Islam remains alive in the region. The mughals would have done the same thing,if Pakistan was created we would hear of thousands of Muslims being killed every year. Speak to Indians muslims they will tell you they are second class Citizens in India. InSallah Pakistan will become a beacon for all of us. May God protect it, Ameen
Mehran Town, Housing scheme, Korangi Karachi was launched by KDA in 1974-75 on instructions of PPP Prime Minister Zulfqar Bhutto for Overseas Pakistanis. Pakistanis abroad relied upon and invested their hard earned money in this housing scheme. That ultimately contributed to pull in a huge foreign exchange in country. By the start of People's Party government different groups of Qabza-Mafia have encroached upon all over the Mehran Town. PM Gilani himself took notice of this massive encroachment on 10 March 2010, but no action hasn't been taken in this regard till yet. Despite the Supreme Court's recent orders about actions against land mafia in Karachi, timid attitude of government officials is inconceivable. There is no perceptible action taken and still several Land Mafia groups with the backing of Govt. allies' parties (PPP-MQM-ANP) are engaged in land grabbing. There have been several clashes on the issue and that resulted in slaying of plenty of innocent people and legal owners. We request all authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and strict action, to return land to its legal owners and to stop this bloodshed. For more information and history of events please visit http://www.mehrantown.com Overseas Well-wisher of Pakistan Mehran Town Welfare Association
The market was built in 1927. Lea Market was named after a British engineer, Measham Lea, who had extensively served in Karachi. The market is located in a trapezoidal chunk of land. Initially, it had two blocks, with open plan and ashlar stone masonry. Vegetable, fish, meat and other merchandise were retailed inside these blocks. In 1937, two more blocks were added due to the rising demand of consumer goods. In 1940s, the clock tower was added to the market space in plain cement concrete finishes. The tower has over the years become a significant land mark in the area.
Guys! a good job done on Wikimapia to help describe Karachi. Since it was posted (2 days ago), the number of places have increased to more than 150!
However, theres still much much more to be described. The whole of the defence area is almost empty (with the exception of sea-vew and dha golf club), gulshan, north karachi, buffer zone and even old city areas such as kharadar, lighthouse and others on MA Jinnah are awaiting tags.
Come on people! if theres anything you know about, go and put a rectangle on it!
Its time to put karachi on the map, literally! If you zoom out and look at the whole world, you’ll see many indian cities there, (with calcutta having 11009 places described, followed by madras by a close 10839) as well as american, european, south asian and others. Lets put karachi up there and tell the world.. “We’re here! Deal with it!“
I mean its not much helpful for anyone living in Karachi.. we already know our city, and that is not a functional GIS tool where we can plan stuff on it, its a showcase of information that is mainly to be be used by outsiders.
Lets say you are going to Guangzhou in China, and you wanna find out where your hotel is and where are the major resturants so you can eat there, lets say I tag on the map on Guangzhou: beijing zhongxin (which means Beijing CENTER, which is a place in Guangzhou) what will you underatnd from it .. sitting there in karachi??? It will be useless to you. If you wanna find out where you can find tour bus??
Remember one thing, if people cant understand you, or your city, they are never interested in it!!
Japan, after world war2 realized that they need soem Forign Investment and started doing things in both English and Japanese.
If you have any chinese Friends you will always find them telling you about their English names, Such as Tony Li, George Lu, or Micheal Xi (theese are my real friends in Korea and China), now they do it so everyone in the world can remember them and can do business with them. they dont tell you their Chinese names, coz they knwo that you wont be interested in them anyways and it wont be heloful for them to remind you about theri names whenever they call you from china for business. Do you think chinese peopel are stupid, dumb or do they feel inferior?? not at all, this is how they market themselves and they established respect for themseleves all over the world, challenge me if I am wrong.
Get that clear to yourself, we need to market our cities and country, and we need to establish a chanell so that people can gain awareness about us.
I like the idea of using braces to write translation…but atleast dont put MASJID, coz no one will understand it and no one will be interested to be bothered about it anymore.
Mr. XIA is asking me (in english language)if I dont like URDU. ZIA dear, the amount of books and urdu literature that i have gone through you must not have ever heard about them ever. Just a hint, I have read QASIS-UL-Ambia when i was 9 years old.. my grandfather has his own library of contemporary and modern urdu literature, can i have nearly read over 500 books thus far, if we include the entire novel series of Ibn-e-Safi and Ishtiaqa Ahmed too.. Magzines and periodicals I have noty included in this list ;) We have in his library a wirtten piece of Farsi Poetry by ShahJahan himself.. in case you are interested dear
